Polaroid, the instant camera, was invented by Edwin Herbert Land in 1948. During that time, people began using the device to take pictures and have them developed in 60 seconds. Land was born in 1909 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and studied optics in the New York Public Library. In addition to studying optics, he conducted experiments in a basement laboratory at Columbia University.
